Library Grant Resources Still Available While Downtown Location Renovated

Grant resources continue to be available to all nonprofits in our region through the Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library’s Grant Resource Center! Through COVID, Kent Mulcahy and the grant resource team have made adjustments to accommodate nonprofit leaders, and this adaptability continues even now in the midst of the downtown library’s major renovation. According to Mulcahy, the Foundation Directory Online database is still available for use at the main downtown library — but only through appointment due to construction restrictions. A change (starting immediately) is that Mulcahy will also be available to meet customers in-person at any of the library’s 41 locations to sign them on to the database.

If you would like to access the Foundation Directory Online database from a branch location, contact Mulcahy at kent.mulcahy@cincinnatilibrary.org  or by phone 513.369.6934 to set up an appointment. (Note: A side benefit is that all branches have free parking and are easily accessible via public transportation!)

Need outside assistance — even with all the accommodations being made by the library?  OneSource Center consultants can provide grant research capabilities through our consulting practice.  Just contact Vickie Ciotti at OneSource Center for more details.

Human Services Chamber: Advocating for All

The Human Services Chamber (HSC) of Hamilton County and OneSource Center are now collaborating partners, supporting OneSource Center’s mission of strengthening nonprofits in the Cincinnati region. Both organizations recognize the importance of human service agencies in our community and the important work they do in job training, housing, mental health and addiction treatment, and supportive services for children, seniors and persons with disabilities.

The Human Services Chamber, a coalition of over 70 human services providers in Hamilton County, has a mission to develop and advocate for public policies that provide equitable opportunities for all community members to reach their full potential. HSC is the only organization in the Cincinnati region with a sole focus of advocating for all facets of the human services community. The organization is a strong advocate in the areas of affordable housing, human services funding and transportation issues — gathering data through community surveys and town meetings and advocating for programs with government leaders and community organizations that address human service needs.

Members of the HSC include organizations in the fields of housing and homelessness, seniors/veterans/persons with disabilities, adult education/workforce development, children/youth, food security and safety net services, mental health/addiction services, comestic violence and victim services

Vanessa Freytag, Board Chair of Human Services Chamber said, “We are proud to partner with OneSource Center to strengthen nonprofits serving all of the human services needs in Hamilton County. When we work together for the good of all — no matter health, age, mobility, employment or economic standing – we lift our whole community and we all win. “

Info Gathering Helps Drive Mission Reach — Stakeholder Interviews, Feasibility Study Assessments, Grant Research

What do others think about our organization? What best practices from around the country should we incorporate?  Who else provides a similar service?  How can we scale up? Are we eligible for any upcoming grants?

These and similar questions often get raised within area nonprofits.  But, when their staffs are stretched to the gills, timely responses are sometimes hard to achieve. When it comes to researching topics that can help agencies drive mission reach, OneSource Center leads the way!  And often, this is exactly the type of project that gets pushed to the backburner due to lack of agency resources to do the interviews.

When can OneSource Center be brought in to “flush out” a topic?

  • Stakeholder Interviews–What do clients, funders, volunteers, collaborative partners, and others think about your services?  We provide trained neutral and unbiased interviewers to design, conduct, and help you analyze the results to key questions you need answered as you engage in strategic planning or business service changes.
  • Feasibility Study Assessments–How much can you raise in a special campaign and what is a reasonable timeline for doing so? Are other nonprofits seeking similar funding?  Does the agency have a history or mission fit with targeted funders?  Is the new program feasible?  Should you own or rent your building?
  • Are there grant funders we haven’t considered or program elements that could get support through targeted grant research?
