The Greater Cincinnati Foundation “Supporting Educational Success” grant is due April 3.  GCF has a dynamic history of investing in educational success throughout our eight-county region. We live in a region with sizable disparities by race and economic status, and educational attainment has proven to be a primary means of advancement in our society. RFPs should explicitly address the following purposes: To support in and/or out of school educational efforts that reduce disparities in educational and career attainment for students of color and/or those of low socioeconomic status; or that increase social-emotional learning and health for those students.  More information is available at the OneSource Center Nonprofit Calendar.

NPQ, believes that how we shape our responses to COVID-19 has far greater implications than the successful containment of this particular and terrifying public health crisis, or even the survival of our individual institutions, though obviously both are critical. NPQ  knows that public health is interconnected with every aspect of our society from access to health care, to financial security, to climate change. There is an immediate opportunity for impact with 100% match on nonprofit gifts through Benevity.  Starting yesterday, Benevity is committing $300,000 in matching funds for any nonprofit donations made through their donation portal. The Government Affairs Department of the Cincinnati Regional Chamber has distributed the following information late last night for nonprofits and businesses in response to the current COVID-19 situation.  This is an evolving story.  Please sign-up for Chamber updates here.

SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL)

• • These are low-interest, 30-year loans of up to $2M to assist businesses who are experiencing economic hardships due to COVID-19.
  • The governors of Ohio and Kentucky have submitted the required application to allow small businesses to apply for EIDL funds.  It is expected that the SBA will approve state applications by Friday.  When the application is approved, individual businesses will need to apply directly to the SBA for funds.  It is estimated that businesses will start to see funds in-hand 14-21 days after their application is received.  The SBA is working to expedite this timeline.  Applications can be accessed here.
  • To assist in this process, the Ohio Development Services Agency (DSA) is asking all affected businesses to complete this form and return it to james.laipply@development.ohio.gov. 
  • DSA is also asking businesses to complete this survey to economic damage throughout the state.
  • Please note, the form and the survey do not take the place of the SBA application.  That is a separate application that will come once Ohio’s application is approved.

Unemployment Benefits

• • Governor DeWine signed an order this week to expand unemployment compensation availability in light of this crisis.
  • The order allows those who have been forced to quarantine, those who have been laid off due to COVID-19 effects, and those who work in businesses that were forced to close to qualify for unemployment compensation. 
  • The state will waive both the one-week waiting period for benefits and the requirement that individuals seek additional employment while receiving benefits.

  • In Kentucky, Governor Beshear also waived the waiting period and job search requirements for those facing unemployment due to COVID-19.  More information can be found here.

• Ohio Lieutenant Governor Husted said small businesses and nonprofits are eligible for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) from the Small Business Administration (SBA) to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills. The Ohio Development Services Agency (ODSA) is coordinating state efforts to gain Ohio’s access to SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loans. ODSA has opened an online portal for businesses and nonprofits to complete an economic damage assessment survey and to sign-up to receive information about these loans. Information received by ODSA will be used for Ohio’s submission to DSA.
