Through UC’s Service Learning Co-op program, students can gain real-world experience and earn a paycheck while supporting community nonprofits. (*Wage assistance available to qualifying nonprofits.) Through this program, nonprofit employers receive:
- High quality student work
- Competitive and caring applicant pools
- Students compensated at no cost to your organization, if qualified
- Professional development training for students
Requirements for nonprofit participation:
- A meaningful work experience with the opportunity to develop transferable skills
- A dedicated supervisor willing to provide evaluative feedback
- An approved employer application

Details for receiving compensation reimbursement:
- Complete this form: Employer Form
- Complete the MOU and return to Paula Harper at paula.harper@uc.edu
- Recruit students through Handshake, which you can access here. (Make sure to include “Service Learning Co-op” in your job title to ensure that S-L Co-op students find your posted position.)
- Conduct interviews with selected candidates and hire those that meet your needs
- Email the name(s) of the student(s) you selected, your W-9 (Form W-9 – Internal Revenue Service), and a quote for the total amount you expect to pay. (Nonprofits will be reimbursed for payment given) Email information to Paula Harper at paula.harper@uc.edu. (S-L Co-op Employers must be able to hire students as W-2 employees. If hiring as a W2 employee is impossible for your organization, please indicate such in your email to Paula Harper.)
- Pay the student $12.50 an hour (80 hour/$1,000 maximum) and invoice UC (see step 7) per pay period or at the end of the project
- Submit a ServeIT Invoice, along with a copy of the student(s)’ pay stubs, and allow 30 days for reimbursement. (Contact Paula for the ServeIT Invoice document.)
